Steven Jefferson
Imagine being on the road at the tender age of 13 with legendary artist such as “The Swanee Quintet” as their main keyboardist. This was the beginning of what would be Steven’s big break as a professional musician.
On the morning of June 11, 1995 was the day Steven’s life would forever change, for the better. He received a phone call from Elder Percy Griffin, with the permission of his mother to travel to New York to perform with The Swanee Quintet only for that one weekend. That one weekend earned him a permanent position as their main keyboardist.
During his career with The Swanee Quintet he’s had the opportunity to share the stage with such notable acts as the late Lou Rawls, The God Father of Soul James Brown, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Canton Spirituals, Lee Williams & The Spiritual Q.C’s just to name a few.
The self-taught musician caught the music bug early at birth. Jefferson, who’s mom was also a singer-songwriter and his dad was also a self-taught musician who could play every instrument fluently that he touched. Everything from the harmonica to the drums, but the lead guitar was his main instrument. Growing up in such a musical household Steven states, “You just can’t help it. You hear music everyday all day. Eventually you’re either going to end up singing or learning how to play an instrument.”
Steven did just that. At the age of three he taught himself how to play the drums. Which in turn led him to learn how to play the bass then the piano.
While working with The Swanee Quintet at Doppler Studios in Atlanta Steven became very intrigued by the entire process. Steven states, “Just watching Mr. Joe Neil & Steve Bracey work and help bring everything together just blew my mind. I wanna be able to do that. I want to be able to help breathe life into peoples music and help them paint their visuals.”
That drive and ambition offered him the opportunity to be a part of such projects as
